Fall Is Here: 5 Simple Ways to Feel Your Best as Summer Winds Down

Healthier habits don't have to be complicated. As summer comes to an end, routines start changing. School is back, schedules get busier, daylight hours gradually get shorter, and those long summer days give way to a more structured fall routine.

This is actually a great time to take a look at a few simple habits that can make a meaningful difference in how you feel.

1. Keep Moving

You don't need to start an intense workout program to benefit from more movement.

A simple 20–30 minute walk can be a great way to stay active, particularly as the cooler fall weather makes being outside more enjoyable. If you spend much of the day sitting at a desk, driving, or working at a computer, getting up periodically and moving around can also help prevent stiffness.

Try taking a short walk after dinner, parking a little farther away when you run errands, or simply getting outside for a few minutes during the day.

The goal isn't perfection—it's consistency.

2. Don't Forget to Hydrate

When the temperatures drop, it's easy to drink less water because you don't feel as thirsty as you did during the summer.

Your body still needs adequate hydration throughout the day, though. Keep a water bottle nearby at work, in the car, or while you're exercising.

If plain water gets boring, try adding lemon, lime, cucumber, or fresh fruit for a little flavor.

3. Get Your Sleep Schedule Back on Track

Late summer nights, vacations and relaxed schedules can throw off your normal sleep routine.

Fall is a good time to get back to a consistent bedtime and wake-up time. Give yourself enough time to wind down before bed and try to keep your schedule relatively consistent—even on weekends.

Good sleep is one of the foundations of feeling your best, and a consistent routine can make it easier to get the rest your body needs.

4. Pay Attention to Your Neck, Shoulders and Lower Back

Fall can bring a surprising amount of sitting.

Driving kids to school and activities, working at a computer, sitting through meetings, studying, and spending more time indoors can all add up.

Pay attention to how you're sitting and take short movement breaks throughout the day. A few minutes of walking, stretching, or simply changing positions can help break up long periods of sitting.

And if you find yourself dealing with persistent neck, shoulder or back pain, don't simply assume it's something you have to live with. Chiropractic care is one of the services we provide for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

5. Eat With the Season

Fall brings plenty of nutritious choices—apples, squash, pumpkin, leafy greens, sweet potatoes and more.

You don't have to completely overhaul your diet. A simple goal is to add more whole foods to your meals before worrying about what you need to take away.

Think colorful fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and plenty of water.

Small changes tend to be much easier to maintain than drastic ones.

Make This Fall Your Reset

You don't have to wait until January to make a fresh start.

Fall is a great opportunity to reset your routines, get moving again, improve your sleep, pay attention to your posture and make better choices with what you put on your plate.

Move better. Feel better. Live better.
