Meet Dr. Frank R. Stiso, DC
Some chiropractors choose their profession because it seemed like a good career. Dr. Frank R. Stiso chose it because he watched it change his family's life, and then his own.
A Family Legacy 7 Decades in the Making
The Stiso chiropractic story begins on a football field in 1959. Dr. Stiso's father, Dr. Frank A. Stiso, suffered a serious injury during a high school game and was told by his family physician that his season was over. Unwilling to accept that, his grandfather took him to see a chiropractor in Linden, NJ. Within days he was back on the field.
That experience changed everything. Dr. Frank A. Stiso went on to attend the Chiropractic Institute of New York and eventually founded the Colonia Chiropractic Center in Colonia, NJ. Over the years chiropractic became a true family profession. Dr. Stiso's uncle, brother-in-law, two sisters, and cousin all followed the same path. Dr. Frank R. Stiso is the seventh chiropractor in the Stiso family, carrying forward a legacy that now spans more than six decades and has helped thousands of patients across New Jersey.
Growing up in Colonia, Dr. Stiso watched his father help patients who had been told there was nothing more that could be done. From an early age he knew he wanted to do the same.

The Accident That Defined His Practice
In 1995, at 21 years old, Dr. Stiso's life changed in an instant.
While stopped at a traffic light in a Ford Mustang convertible, his vehicle was violently struck from behind by a raised Ford Bronco. The impact was so severe that the Bronco's oversized tires climbed onto the convertible. Moments later a second vehicle collided into the Bronco, pushing it into Dr. Stiso's car again and sending the vehicle through a busy intersection.
He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Physicians initially believed he had fractured his C2 vertebra. Additional imaging ruled out the cervical fracture, sparing him from wearing a halo brace, but a neurosurgeon informed him that lower back surgery and spinal fusion would be unavoidable.
His father had a different plan.
Instead of surgery, Dr. Stiso Sr. immediately began treating his son conservatively with chiropractic care. More than 30 years later, Dr. Frank R. Stiso has still never had spinal surgery. He continues to benefit from regular chiropractic treatment himself and manages the multiple lumbar disc herniations from that accident to this day.
That experience gave him something most physicians never have: the perspective of a patient living with chronic pain, herniated discs, and the aftermath of a serious accident. He believes that being both a doctor and a lifelong chiropractic patient allows him to understand what his patients are going through in a way that cannot be taught in any classroom.

His Approach to Patient Care
Dr. Stiso is not interested in keeping patients in his office longer than they need to be. His goal is to find the source of the problem, correct it as efficiently as possible, and help patients get back to living their lives. He believes that chiropractic care should be honest, thorough, and focused on results rather than dependency.
He takes the time to know his patients personally. He stays with them during therapy rather than leaving them alone in a room. He asks questions and listens to the answers. His father always called it finding the common bond and it is something that has defined the Stiso approach to patient care for six decades.
If chiropractic is not the right fit for a patient's situation he will say so directly and make sure they get pointed in the right direction. That kind of honesty is rarer than it should be. It is also exactly what patients deserve.
